April Newton
Under Sheriff
April was educated on the Isle of Wight before attending the University of Keele where she obtained a joint honours degree in Law & Psychology.
Qualifying as a solicitor in 1997, April has practised on the Isle of Wight ever since spending time as both an in house solicitor and in private practice. She specialises in Private Client Law and is a Partner at Glanvilles Damant Legal Services.
In 2017 April became the first female President of the Southern Area Association of Law Societies, an organisation which brings together local law societies from counties including Middlesex, Oxfordshire, Surrey, Hampshire, Dorset – and not forgetting the Isle of Wight.
April is a previous President of the Isle of Wight Law Society and remains a committee member, having carried out the role of Honorary Secretary for many years. She is also very proud to be a Governor at St George’s School.
Married with two children, April also makes time for a number of hobbies including Petanque where she has represented the Isle of Wight at the Inter Regional Championships.
April has held the office of Under Sheriff for the Isle of Wight since 2020 and hopes to continue to support the Isle of Wight High Sheriff for many years to come.
